10 Amazing Chinese Foods
Discover 10 amazing Chinese foods. Chances are, if you haven’t been to China then your perception of Chinese food is a little bit askew. The stuff you get from your local Chinese shop hardly comes close! Even if the cooks are from China, in most cases they westernize the dishes.
China is my one of my favorite countries for food. The thing I love about it most is the variety. Every province has its own specialties. Picking only 10 to highlight was difficult. I tried to get a good mix of dishes that most people would be happy to try (nothing too weird) with some of my favorites.

10 Amazing Chinese Foods
1. Dao Xiao Mian
The first item on this list of amazing Chinese foods is my favorite type of noodles. Dao Xiao Mian translates to shaved noodles. I love the texture of it. The cook has a lump of noodle dough and shaves strips straight into boiling water. Simple, and very delicious.
2. Ma Po Doufu
I’m a big fan of tofu. I’m also a big fan of chili. Ma Po Doufu is chili tofu, so I love it! A Japanese girl once told me that the Ma Po sauce is miso and chili.
3. Pai Gu Xian Mian
Xian mian stands for thread noodles. Pai gu is pork ribs. Of course, you can have xian man with other ingredients.
4. Shui Jiao
Classic Chinese dumplings! I love them with vinegar and chili. Shui Jiao is the boiled kind. Most westerners are more familiar with the fried version, jiao zi. The only difference is how they cook them.
5. Zha Jiang Mian
Number 5 on this list of amazing Chinese foods is Zha Jiang Mian. Zhan Jiang Mian is a simple noodles dish. It is often nothing but noodles and the soy paste sauce, although you can have other things in it as well. It is the soy paste sauce that makes this noodle.
6. La Mian
This may be the type of Chinese noodle people know best and with good reason. They are delicious. La Mian is hand-pulled noodles. My favorite type is the Muslim version from Xinjiang, which is almost like spaghetti.
7. Cha Shao
Chao Shao is Chinese BBQ pork. I remember it from my childhood. These days I could take it or leave it, except in Bao Zi. It is my favorite filling in Bao Zi.
Bao Zi isn’t on this list, but it is the “big brother” of Xiao Long Bao with is number 9.
8. Beijing Kao Ya
You may know Beijing Kao Ya better as Peking Duck. What I love about Beijing Duck are all the different ways they can serve it up. In thin pancakes, soup, with rice, in lettuce, etc.
9. Xiao Long Bao
Xiao Long Bao is my favorite Chinese snack food. But you have to be careful eating it. Inside is a mouth-watering broth that can squirt out at you! Make a small hole, let the steam out, then enjoy.
10. Cong You Bing
The last dish on this list of amazing Chinese foods is Cong You Bing. The translation is scallion pancakes. This is a great “on the go” snack from street vendors.
