The One Thing I Hate About Traveling

The One Thing I Hate About Traveling

The things most people dislike about traveling, are the exact same things which I admire about it, but there is one thing I hate about traveling.

Well, hate is such a strong word, I would prefer to say dislike.

Now before I get into the one thing I hate about traveling, it’s necessary to let you know what I do like (for comparison purposes).

Although there is only one thing I hate about traveling, I can understand how there are many other things that others hate about traveling.

Actually Traveling

Many people dislike the ‘traveling’ part of traveling, i.e., trains, plains and auto-mobiles (good old school movie btw, Steve Martin and John Candy).

I love stepping into a transport hub, e.g, airport, bus station). I feel as though it is a symbolization of coming and going. It breeds the feeling of freedom that travel brings.

Also, I’m quite lucky in that I can sleep anywhere, which magically turns long journeys short.

The Logistics

Most other things people hate are the logistical f*ck ups about travelling, i.e, customs, losing luggage, getting mugged, getting lost, etc.

I don’t hate these things. I don’t love them, but I think the most memorable travel moments stem from the unpredictability and are directly contributed to by these things. It’s all a part of traveling, and these are the things that force you to keep your wits about you.

That is why travelling is so good for the mind. It implores you to problem solve, think out of the box and use your initiative. The ones that don’t have this ability are the ones that dislike travelling. It’s the fuk ups in life that keep life interesting. Build a bridge!

The One Thing I Hate About Traveling

In fact, there is only one thing I hate about travelling, and that’s the people. Don’t get me wrong, I love meeting new people, even (and especially) the awkward ones.

The problem is, when you travel, you meet so many good souls, and many of them you will never see again. In a bullet list nutshell form:

  • Every time I see you, this may be the last time I see you.
  • You are constantly saying goodbye to grand people (well, I tend not to say goodbye, I prefer to more or less just leave. Please don’t be pissed if I didn’t say goodbye to you).
  • You’ll never be able to get all your favorite people in the same room at the same time, let alone the same country. Except maybe my wedding, or funeral, and even then it isn’t very likely they’ll all show up.

But if I never traveled, I would have never met them, or seen all the stuff the world has to offer – Believe me, it’s soooo worth it! Even if I do have to put up with the one thing I hate about traveling.

Travel Well and Discover All You Can

Well, that’s the one thing I hate about traveling. What’s yours? Let us know that (or anything else you want to say) in the comments 😀 .
